SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
The following requirements must be followed when cooking under a tent and/or using a propane tank. If you have any questions at all, please contact the Fire Marshal’s Office at (860) 647-3267.
TENTS:
The following conditions shall be met when cooking under a tent:
- A certificate from the tent manufacturer or a listed laboratory shall be submitted to the Fire Marshal’s Office stating that the tent is fireproof and flame retardant.
- The public shall not be allowed under tent while cooking or cooking appliance(s) are in operation and/or in place.
- Tents not used for cooking, which are used for weather protection, shall be allowed as long as they are not a flammable type material.
- Any tent used for public seating/cover shall be at least twenty-five feet (25’) from any cooking tent.
- Certain size tents require that a Building Permit be issued. These requirements are on file at the Building Department (647-3052).
The Fire Marshal must approve the tent at least two weeks prior to the event.
PROPANE USAGE:
A permit must be issued by the Fire Marshal. There is a $20.00 fee per each 20-gallon tank.
Inspection of the appliance and fuel source will be done on site - the day of the event.
